An ARC!

Hello WordPress world!

Yes, it’s been a long time, yet again.

I’ve been pursuing a business with Young Living Essential Oils and have been focusing on that, on raising my son, and spending time with my friends and family.  I figure I’ll keep trying a blog until it eventually sticks with me or I no longer have a desire to publish a blog 🙂

Recently I was fortunate enough to pop on to Facebook at the right time.  I opened the app and there was an ad for a new book by St. Martin’s Press called “The Wife Between Us.”  The title drew me in, as did the word free so I quickly clicked through and signed up to receive a copy.

It feels like Christmas morning and your birthday combined when you get a free book in the mail, right?  I know that can’t be just me or you wouldn’t be reading this blog. Low and behold there was my Advanced Reader Copy of this book.  And guess what I was going to read this one before it was released for sale even if I lost sleep to do it.

Let’s talk about the book itself.  I am not a fan of hardback books – they’re uncomfortable to hold and I hate dust jackets.  1 point for “The Wife Between Us” as it was a gorgeous paperback in a nice hefty size.  Beautiful blue cover that is almost an optical illusion – very similar to other books in this genre right now, but still stuck out to me.

Another unique thing about this novel was that it is written by two authors: Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen .  They did an excellent job.  It was a book that you read and could tell the difference between the authors in a jarring way.  I have an assumption that they each took on one of the perspectives, but I could very easily be wrong.  It was seamless, not at all choppy or discordant.  Hendricks and Pekkanen’s relationship began as an editor/author relationship respectively.  When Hendricks left the publishing world she confided in Pekkanen that she wanted to write a book and Pekkanen broached the idea of co-authoring a novel.  Obviously the two work well together.

The book itself.  The back cover warns you that you will make assumptions and I didn’t heed that warning enough.  Even reading that, it is far to difficult not to make assumptions.

This book exceeded my expectations, it really did.  I was expecting something in the same vein as “The Woman in Cabin 10” or “The Girl on the Train,” it was more, in my opinion.  While each of those were excellent in their own right, “The Wife Between Us” was markedly different and I appreciated that so much.

I highly recommend you read it.  Mainly because I’d like to talk to someone about it!  I already tried convincing my husband to read it and regretted that I was about half-way through when I realized this could have been our car book over the holidays (more on that later).  It is an easy read, because it is so entertaining.  I was 1/3 of the way through when I realized… nothing much had happened.  There was a delicious build-up but no action yet.  And it worked!

I don’t want to give away any spoilers – especially because this book is not available for sale until January 9, 2018 (unless your a BOTM member because I believe they had early access in the month of December as well)!  Pre-order it, add it to your cart, go to the bookstore first thing on January 9th.  Whatever you do, just get your hands on this book.
